Introduction

As a hairdresser, you are in a unique position. You have the power to make people feel good about themselves and their appearance. However, it can be challenging to know when it’s time to raise prices for your services. As a hairstylist, there are three signs that indicate you may need to raise prices on your services:

You can’t remember the last time you had a cancellation or no-show.

You can’t remember the last time you had a cancellation or no-show. Having loyal and committed clients means your business is thriving and your customers are happy. You have created a fantastic client experience that no one wants to miss out on. Nonetheless, it’s also a sign that you’re nearly at the top of your game. Congratulations, this is a sign you need to level up.

You have a long list of referrals.

If you have a waiting list of clients who want to see you exclusively, this is a sign that you are doing something right. That means the clients loyal to you and trusting your skills are sending you many referrals. Which, BTW, is the best way to grow your business. But at this point, you are tapped out and have no place for growth. Therefore, you must raise your prices so you can keep thriving. You deserve it!

You are struggling to get people in.

One of the biggest signs that it’s time to raise your prices is when you are struggling to get people in. If you’re only taking on new clients when someone cancels, or if you’re not able to take on new clients at all, then something needs to change.

In order to make room for new clients who will pay a higher ticket, you need to raise your prices. If some clients leave, that’s okay. This will open up your schedule to take the higher paying clients. It’s a matter of supply and demand.

“We can’t be afraid of change. You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea.”

Conclusion

As a hairdresser, you are the only one who can determine when it’s time to raise your prices. It’s important to consider all the factors that go into raising prices and ensure they align with your goals. I will say if you know you are giving a kick-ass client experience and you have a long waiting list of people that want to see you exclusively, it’s probably time to give yourself a raise. Sounds like you’ve earned it!
